A web and mobile apps to manage railcar movements, automate safety checks, and reduce yard inefficiencies.

Designed a yard management system for Katoen Natie: integrating railcar scheduling, location tracking, and automated workflows for safety and throughput.
The Challenge
Katoen Natie manages massive rail yards where safety and efficiency are critical. Paper logs and manual coordination slowed operations and created risks. My challenge was to design a digital system that could keep up with industrial realities.
Process & Research
Joined operations teams on-site to observe how they scheduled railcars, performed safety checks, and communicated between shifts. I translated these workflows into journey maps and opportunity areas for digitization.
Testing & Iteration
Prototyped scheduling boards, safety workflows, and yard maps. Iterating with operators, I learned to simplify interfaces and focus on what mattered most: preventing errors and delays.
The Solution & Impact
Delivered a yard management platform that combined scheduling, safety checks, and location tracking. The system reduced manual paperwork, cut delays, and improved accountability across teams.
Learnings & Next Steps
Designing for industrial contexts taught me to respect complexity while simplifying for usability. Next steps could include integrating predictive analytics and mobile-first tools for field operators.
